What did you learn about your ecological footprint by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you? What are some ways you will take action to reduce your footprint?

I'm not surprised... I walk everywhere so that saves on gasoline, and rarely travel, live in a small space, and try to keep all my meals to local foods.

What are some of the cases you could make to an employer for why switching to durable dishes and utensils is actually in their best interest as well?

Our employer is actually pretty good at this; the disposables used by the cafe are all compostable, and there are plenty of cups and plates etc available in the staff rooms.

Were you surprised by what the different plastic identification numbers mean? How can this information help you become a better recycler?

Number 6 Plastic - - This is Styrofoam.
Not only styrofoam, but yogurt containers and Solo cups (the red drink cups), all made from the same stuff. STYROFOAM NEVER DIES FOR AS LONG AS YOU LIVE.

What are the benefits (to people, animals, and the environment) of purchasing clothes made with natural fibers?

Well for one, for me socks will melt into sharp mattes of plastic fabric, if they are made with any percent of plastic, so I have to get them from as much % cotton as possible. Natural fibers just feel better than plastic fibers.

How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

I reuse and upcycle old clothing or random items. Right now I'm making so many old keychains, or charms bought on holiday, into earrings; and the hook on my necklace is actually just a paperclip.

What are the benefits of switching to bamboo toothbrushes? How would you implore others in your community to make this switch as well?

I personally think the bristles feel better; more stiff but not as painful

Yesterday I attended a brunch with 20 other members of a club I belong to. We ate of of compostable plates using wooden cutlery.
I understand that the very large paper mill in Crofton is removing its largest newsprint machine because newspapers are now digital.
In the huge building they will now be making compostable food containers from the Jraft pulp and wooden cutlery from thin wooden veneer.
The capacity to replace styrofoam food containers and hard plastic cutkery in all of Canada is in sight.

Other than a butcher shop, does anyone know where you can buy meal with less packaging?
At least now the trays that the meat comes in is recyclable.
