Does anyone have any for sure changes they are going to make towards their plastic habits? Such as reusable cups?

I hope everyone doing the challenge is learning more from it! Not to mention the amount of plastic they accumulated throughout the month (or less!)

What is the benefit of using bar soaps or refilling your travel sized containers? Is this an action you think you will keep in your life?

Benefits of using bar soaps is they are a lot easier not to mention they last a lot longer. I know recently people have been making bar shampoo and even conditioner that is a lot nicer on your hair than cheap shampoo and conditioner. It is an action for your life you will need to get used to so it does take some time, it is easier on trips as you aren’t there for a long time but good to test it out.

What are the benefits of switching to bamboo toothbrushes? How would you implore others in your community to make this switch as well?

Switching to a bamboo toothbrush is very beneficial to the environment as it eliminates unnecessary waste, it also cleans just as good as a plastic toothbrush. Another benefit to a bamboo toothbrush is bamboo is very renewable source as it grows very quickly and can even continue growing after being cut!

Often, single-use and disposable products don't just create more trash - they also contain toxins that are bad for humans. What are some other single-use items that are harmful to humans?

Speaking of the dryer sheets I found a TikTok that says they’re bad for the environment but also the fact that they aren’t really needed when doing laundry. Other single use items that are harmful to humans could be single use cups, I’m sure each time you go outside you’re bound to see a cup, not only is it harmful for the environment it’s also harmful to humans.

How are caring for your pet and caring for the environment connected for you?

Caring for my pets and making sure the least amount of plastic is accumulated is connected as not only am I adding less pollution to the environment but I’m also helping other animals out in the process (wild animals that is)

Recycling right requires both systemic change and personal and community awareness. How can you expand what you've learned about the chasing arrows symbol to encourage broader changes in your community?

After research I found out items that cannot be recycled can’t used the chasing arrows symbol, but that can still be fought around due to state recycling criteria.

What did you learn about how plastic production impacts humans, animals, communities, and the environment? Which of these impacts specifically affects your community?

One of the big impacts plastic production can have is harming life, humans included. It tears down the environment, animals end up either trapped or eating the plastic, which in turn humans who eat seafood then ingest that same plastic.

Was this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?

    Jordyn Garnett 7/28/2023 10:58 AM
It was easy to plan food when traveling and the only thing it changed was the cost of buying food went down so more money for the trip, as well as less stops so we get there sooner, so highly recommend doing it if you don’t like spending money/ multiple stops

Were you surprised by what the different plastic identification numbers mean? How can this information help you become a better recycler?

At first I didn’t realize plastic with recycling was numbered in a way, as well as how these numbers help categorize specific recyclables. This information can help me become a better recycler by using these identifications and recycling them by these identifications.
