TSS Scholl 7/18/2023 1:46 PMI personally only use straws at restaurants that do use paper straws.
I also found very helpful, is to use washable none plastic bags for outings.
I have refrigerator bags and freezer.
Keep up the Great work!

Amanda's actions
Kitchen
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Kitchen
Go Strawless
I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Kitchen
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Kitchen
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 3 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Bathroom
Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Wipes don't break down in sewer systems, but combine with fat to create massive clogs. I will find alternatives to using disposable wipes.
Bathroom
Green Beauty
When it's time to buy more, I will replace my beauty products with refillable, sustainable, and/or DIY options.
Bathroom
That Was a Close Shave
I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors.
Kitchen
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Kitchen
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Bedroom
Eco Detergent
I will use laundry detergent that is packaged in glass or aluminum, or an alternative like soap nuts.
Bedroom
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 10 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 5 piece(s) of litter each day.
Study
Dig into Bioplastics
I will spend at least 20 minutes researching the impacts of bioplastics and how to properly dispose of them in my city, and I will share this information with 10 friends, family, and/or colleagues.

Amanda Zaino 7/31/2023 7:44 AMLast day of the plastic free July challenge, but it's good to continue being conscious of our daily choices we're making and how it impacts the environment! Everyday should be plastic free if possible! -
Amanda Zaino 7/18/2023 1:29 PMReally trying to remember to keep my reusable bags with me in the car, and then having to restock them every time I bring them inside!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Amanda Zaino 7/18/2023 1:26 PMInstead of plastic straws using metal ones, only metal utensils, and glass cups and plates. It's really easy and affordable to make the switch, especially if you thrift a lot of those items! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomEven though they are marketed as "flushable," disposable wipes do not disintegrate in water or the sewer system, and actually release microplastics into our waterways. How does it feel to learn this information? What do you want to do about it?
Amanda Zaino 7/11/2023 8:28 AMIt feels confusing and untrustworthy. It makes you really think if you should trust labels on products. I will refuse to use them.-
Melissa Dude 7/11/2023 9:47 AMI never trusted them. It's an interesting experiment to take a piece of toilet paper and swirl it in a glass and a flushable wipe. You really see the paper disintegrate and the wipe stay the same.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBedroomHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Amanda Zaino 7/04/2023 10:15 AMBy having a few select items you can mix and match, you are able to still have a wide variety of different options and still be able to express your creativity! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Amanda Zaino 7/04/2023 10:14 AMThere has been! If you are showing people the negative impacts of plastic straws ending up in our environment, they feel more inclined to make that shift to re-usable straws. It is also convenient to be carrying one around with you! -
Amanda Zaino 7/01/2023 1:12 PMIt's just the start of plastic-free July! We can do this everyone!!! :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Amanda Zaino 7/01/2023 1:10 PMBy keeping a certain area clean, it creates beauty in that space, causing you to want to consistently make sure that area is clean and trash-free -
