Erin's actions
Bathroom
Green Beauty
When it's time to buy more, I will replace my beauty products with refillable, sustainable, and/or DIY options.
Bedroom
Catch Those Microfibers
I will use a microfiber catcher in my laundry, or install a microfiber filter for my washing machine.
Bedroom
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 60 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Study
Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.
Study
Estimate Your Ecological Footprint
I will calculate my ecological footprint, and from the results brainstorm and take action on ways I can reduce my annual footprint.
Study
Follow the Chasing Arrows
The chasing arrows symbol we associate with recycling doesn't always actually mean something is recyclable. I will spend at least 60 minutes learning the different meanings the symbol can have.
Study
Numbers Everywhere
The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot - and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn what these numbers mean and which types of plastics are accepted for recycling in my area.
Family + Pets
Thoughtful Toys
I will only buy cloth, wooden or plant-based natural rubber toys. Or make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Kitchen
Swap the Snacks
I will swap out 2 prepackaged snacks a day for fresh fruits or veggies.
Kitchen
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Kitchen
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.

Erin Sullivan 7/13/2023 3:09 PMI’m a little discouraged this year. Most of the changes I am comfortable with are changes I’ve made for previous challenges! I guess it’s nice to know I’m living a more eco-friendly life, but I’m feeling stuck.-
Sinclair Boggs 7/14/2023 6:24 AMI feel this way sometimes too and find that sharing resources and celebrating successes with others is one way to reenergize my efforts. Being a cheerleader for others to adopt some of the actions you have already incorporated into your lifestyle is a great way to double down on impact. -
Krystina Jarvis 7/13/2023 7:19 PMIs there an action or two that would push you outside of your comfort zone that you could give a try?

REFLECTION QUESTIONStudyWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Erin Sullivan 7/13/2023 3:06 PMMost of my household waste is generated by my pets. There’s not really much I can do - plastic is the best way to contain their waste, and I tried to use eco-friendly litter before (they did NOT like it) - but I have been taking their shedded hair outside for the birds. It’s not much, but every little bit counts, right? -
Erin Sullivan 7/02/2023 5:30 PMI’ve done this for a couple of years now, and when going down the list of actions, I was pleased to see how many things that started as challenges have become part of my regular routine! A 30 day challenge can have long-lasting impact.
