Anna's actions
Bathroom
Sustainable Suds
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions with sustainable, unpackaged, or refillable options.
Family + Pets
Sustainable Suds: Pet Edition
I will replace my pet's shampoo with an eco-friendly shampoo bar or refillable shampoo option.
Bedroom
Ditch Dryer Sheets
I will use wool dryer balls or another plastic-free alternative to dryer sheets to keep my clothes static-free.
Bathroom
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me.
Bathroom
Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Wipes don't break down in sewer systems, but combine with fat to create massive clogs. I will find alternatives to using disposable wipes.
Family + Pets
Invest in a Pooper-Scooper
I will swap out my single use plastic bags for a pooper-scooper.
Study
Numbers Everywhere
The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot - and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn what these numbers mean and which types of plastics are accepted for recycling in my area.
Kitchen
Plant a Garden
I will plant an herb or vegetable garden using as little plastic as possible and to save from the plastic used buying herbs and veggies.
Kitchen
Go Strawless
I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Kitchen
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Bedroom
Sunshine Bleached
I will hang-dry my laundry to use the sun as a natural bleach alternative, or use another natural bleach alternative.
Family + Pets
Thoughtful Toys
I will only buy cloth, wooden or plant-based natural rubber toys. Or make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Kitchen
Clean Plate Club
When I need to replace my dish soap, I will switch to a bar or refillable option.
Kitchen
Try a New Recipe
I will try new recipe(s) or food preparation method(s) each day, such as canning, pickling, making yogurt, or baking granola bars or bread.
Kitchen
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Study
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Kitchen
Plastic Free Lunch Boxes
I will only pack reusable cutlery, drinkware and containers in my family's lunches to reduce plastic waste.
Kitchen
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

Cheyenne Mathes 7/23/2023 8:21 AMHunting down plastic free options in grocery stores is something I'm hoping to stick with, I have too many reusable bags to turn back now! -
Krystina Jarvis 7/20/2023 12:39 PMI've definitely gotten back into the habit of only allowing myself to purchase coffee on the go if I have my own cup to give them!

REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomWhat is the benefit of using bar soaps or refilling your travel sized containers? Is this an action you think you will keep in your life?
Anna Slovinski 7/14/2023 9:54 AMI've always used refillable travel size containers, it helps especially when traveling with three kids that all want to use different hair/body products (instead of purchasing multiple travel shampoos, conditioners or soaps. they just use the refillable bottles) I will always use refillable containers -

REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Anna Slovinski 7/02/2023 11:58 AMHonestly easier. The plastic bags at the stores normally rip. With my reusable ones I dont have that issue!-
Cheyenne Mathes 7/14/2023 8:26 AMI love my reusuable bags! It gives me more options to pick cute ones to express myself! :)

REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Anna Slovinski 7/02/2023 11:57 AMMy kids love straws. We use to buy them all the time. It is so much better now with our reusable ones!!!-
