Conservation Club

I’m planning to start up a conservation club at my school for my senior year. Summer is the best time to work on it, so I can go through with it during the school year. I want to spend at least fifteen minutes on it everyday.

I think being conscious of my single use contacts has actually encouraged me to wear my glasses more, which cuts down on waste even if it can be recycled!

I was able to go to my eye doctor’s office and investigate our contact recycling program!

Why do you chew gum? What habits could replace and meet your reasons for chewing gum?

I chew gum to keep my mind off of things, and although it’s not something I do religiously, it’s something that I feel comfortable giving up. I think journaling my thoughts could be a replacement for gum keeping my minds off things!

    Community
Have you noticed a difference in how your community, friends, and family members use plastics since you've shared your own actions?

I think that although my community is well aware of how I feel about environmental efforts, some do pay attention when I post about conservation. When it is me personally doing something, I know that it has a much larger effect.

Take a moment to estimate how many disposable daily contacts you may have used over the years. What would be your impact now of switching to a contact brand with a longer lifespan?

I’ve never heard of contact recycling, and with single use contacts being the only ones currently available to me, this is perfect! The closest facility also happens to be my eye doctors, so I’m very excited for this challenge!
