Edward's actions
Kitchen
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Bathroom
Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Wipes don't break down in sewer systems, but combine with fat to create massive clogs. I will find alternatives to using disposable wipes.
Bathroom
Homemade or Refillable Cleaners
I will make my own cleaning products or choose plastic-free, refillable options.
Kitchen
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 4 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Kitchen
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Kitchen
Glass Bottle Baby
I will replace 1 plastic bottles with glass or stainless steel alternatives.
Kitchen
Go Strawless
I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Family + Pets
Invest in a Pooper-Scooper
I will swap out my single use plastic bags for a pooper-scooper.
Kitchen
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Kitchen
Swap the Snacks
I will swap out 2 prepackaged snacks a day for fresh fruits or veggies.
Bathroom
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me.

Edward Shevitz 7/31/2023 4:05 AMGreat job Maryland Zoo participants. -
Edward Shevitz 7/21/2023 6:14 AMBeen to a few restaurants this week and no one recycles and still issue plastic bags. -
Edward Shevitz 7/18/2023 4:04 AMThese grocery store better start preparing for the non use of plastic. Most do not even, currently, offer paper. Those that do, even though they do not charge, they are cheap material. Cannot reuse because once you pick them up, they tear. -
Edward Shevitz 7/17/2023 3:25 AMSo many restaurants, businesses stores that are not recycling. Restaurants still using plastic bags, containers and straws.

Kaitlyn Ulrich 7/17/2023 5:55 AMI went out to eat Saturday night and it was horrible! Plastic cups, sauce containers, straws and more given out to guests. They weren't even trying.

Edward Shevitz 7/16/2023 6:55 AMI do have a compost bin and it saved me from buying mulch this year for the shrubs. Used a blower vacuum to pick up grass, leaves and sunflower shells, which got distributed to the bin and then the shrubs. -
Edward Shevitz 7/16/2023 6:49 AMLike to see shopping areas, sporting venues, parks and even the zoo have 3 recycling containers.
Blue Bottles and cans
Green Paper
Black Trash
The zoo just needs to add 1 can. -
Edward Shevitz 7/16/2023 6:42 AMI am hopeful that when Baltimore County bans plastic bags, November 1, 2023, and they state that retailer charge 5 cents (minimum) for a reusable bag, that part or all of the proceeds go to charity.
Wegman’s does that now.-

Edward Shevitz 7/08/2023 5:15 AMWay to go Maryland Zoo!
Crushing the competition. 👏 -
Edward Shevitz 7/08/2023 5:14 AMSo many grocery stores still using these flimsy plastic bags. Cannot wait, I believe November, when plastic bags are gone in Baltimore County. -
Edward Shevitz 7/05/2023 5:19 AMI will need to ask Baltimore County when they will require residents to compost items instead of accumulating for trash pick up.
