I will hang-dry my laundry to use the sun as a natural bleach alternative, or use another natural bleach alternative.

Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.

Host a litter sweep
I will organize a litter sweep and invite all teammates to participate.
Community

Extending the Life
I will find a way to repurpose unavoidable single-use plastic items (e.g., cereal bags, coffee bags) to extend their life and utility. This also helps replace my dependence of other plastic items.

Linda Rowe 7/19/2023 6:03 PMOat milk is so ridiculously easy to make, no one should ever buy it! Here’s the recipe: 1 c oats + 4 c water in blender for 30 seconds; strain 2 times through a fine mesh strainer. Done. Finished! It keeps for a week. I will never buy it in a disposable container again.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Linda Rowe 7/14/2023 6:06 PMIt's an action I can take for positive change. It connects me to the community by doing something for the collective good. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Linda Rowe 7/06/2023 6:19 PMIt feels impossible to reduce plastic packaging while shopping, but I’m finding that my usual grocery store may not be my best option! This challenge is definitely helping me to try new places, new foods, and realize what I can do without! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHow do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?
Linda Rowe 7/05/2023 4:38 PMI don't love food preparation. It's a necessary chore, but making it a part of the Ecochallenge is motivating me to stick with it. And I really appriciate the benefit of having foods like hummus, pesto, and granola bars without the plastic packaging. -
Linda Rowe 7/02/2023 12:19 PMHi Team, I hope you're all starting off strong! Is anyone a part of a Buy Nothing Facebook Group? I'm not on FB but I've got stuff to share. If you know of any other similar local groups (FreeCycle, etc) I'd love to connect with you offline. Please email me ([email protected])!
