I will plant an herb or vegetable garden using as little plastic as possible and to save from the plastic used buying herbs and veggies.
Kitchen
Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Study
Estimate Your Ecological Footprint
I will calculate my ecological footprint, and from the results brainstorm and take action on ways I can reduce my annual footprint.
Community
Learn about Environmental Justice

Study
Say No to Styrofoam
Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can, making sure to kindly let people know why I'm asking for alternative packaging.
Community

I will lobby my workplace to have reusable dishes and silverware in order to minimize disposables.
Kitchen
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own snacks and meals in my own containers to avoid the waste of take-out containers.
Family + Pets
Get Rid of Glitter
I will teach my little ones about microplastics while we do a craft project together using glitter alternatives.
Study
Numbers Everywhere
The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot - and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn what these numbers mean and which types of plastics are accepted for recycling in my area.
Kitchen
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Bedroom
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 30 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Study
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Bedroom
Natural Fibers
When available, I will purchase clothing and bedding made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers.
Kitchen
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Community
Tour A Waste Management Facility
I will spend at least 30 minute(s) touring (virtually or in person) a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about our local waste and waste recovery streams.

Gabryella Pulsinelli 7/31/2023 6:34 PMIn many lower areas of income, styrofoam is way more relevant because it is the cheaper alternative, especially in the restaurants around there. -

Gabryella Pulsinelli 7/31/2023 6:31 PMYeah a lot of us talk more about plastic now and it somethign we are trying to make a workplace more plastic free -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityLandfills and recycling centers tell us a lot about our communities and purchasing habits. What did you glean from your tour?
Gabryella Pulsinelli 7/27/2023 9:03 AMThat in NJ that each facility takes different plastics so at work they take different types vs what my town takes at home. So I have to be very careful what I throw in my recycling bin at home vs at work. -

Gabryella Pulsinelli 7/26/2023 12:36 PMThis was so easy and much healthier than candy from a vending machine. I just put some apples and oranges in my car and it was so much better and I felt more energized. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenSince the restrictions that COVID-19 has required of our society, trying to use your own cup might present new barriers, as well as new opportunities for creative problem solving. How were you able to achieve success on this action? How can you make it a long-term habit?
Gabryella Pulsinelli 7/21/2023 6:49 AMI try to keep it in my car that way I have the option to always use it. Most places are willing to use your cup. It is use less convenient since you can't use the drive-through. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Gabryella Pulsinelli 7/20/2023 7:30 AMThere is so much damn plastic in the grocery store and it is hard to avoid. Everything comes in it, fish, my frozen vegan chicken nuggets, etc. Even some people individual wrap apples! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONStudyAs you have reduced your spending, what have you noticed about your 'health and safety' purchasing habits? How might this change your longer term purchasing decisions?
Gabryella Pulsinelli 7/19/2023 11:54 AMOn amazon prime day I only bought what I needed and it is amazing to see how much money you save not spending it on random stuff. For the long term I am going to always ask myself do I need this? -
Gabryella Pulsinelli 7/19/2023 10:04 AMI got to use my mug at starbucks yesterday and today just sucks you can't use the drive-through when using your own mug
