Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).

Say No to Styrofoam
Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can, making sure to kindly let people know why I'm asking for alternative packaging.
Kitchen
Swap the Snacks
I will swap out 1 prepackaged snacks a day for fresh fruits or veggies.

Balloons Blow
Although a long-standing festive tradition, balloons are harmful for animals and the environment. I will spend 30 learning about the dangers of balloons and find eco-friendly alternatives to use instead.
Family + Pets
Rubber Glove Pet Hair Removal
I will use a rubber glove to remove pet hair from clothes, carpets and furniture.
Bedroom
Sunshine Bleached
I will hang-dry my laundry to use the sun as a natural bleach alternative, or use another natural bleach alternative.
Kitchen
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Bedroom
Natural Fibers
When available, I will purchase clothing and bedding made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers.
Bathroom
Green Beauty
When it's time to buy more, I will replace my beauty products with refillable, sustainable, and/or DIY options.
Kitchen
Plastic Free Lunch Boxes
I will only pack reusable cutlery, drinkware and containers in my family's lunches to reduce plastic waste.
Study
Learn about Plastic Production
Plastic production, not just disposal, pollutes communities and harms people. I will learn about the impacts of plastic production on humans, animals, communities, and the environment.
Kitchen
Plant a Garden
I will plant an herb or vegetable garden using as little plastic as possible and to save from the plastic used buying herbs and veggies.
Bathroom
Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Wipes don't break down in sewer systems, but combine with fat to create massive clogs. I will find alternatives to using disposable wipes.

REFLECTION QUESTIONStudyHow has learning about the history of single-use plastic shifted your mindset on plastics and their function within society?
Alison Perreault 7/31/2023 3:24 PMI never thought about manufactured demand before and will be teaching my children about this. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily + PetsHow can you and your little one exercise your creativity without creating more plastic waste?
Alison Perreault 7/31/2023 3:23 PMwe can look at items that would potentially get tossed and turn them into something fun for around the house. A new vase, a holder for pens and pencils, a place to store mail.-
ANGEL Boose 7/31/2023 5:21 PMI don't love tiktok but the things I've learned to create out of waste still blows my mind lol. Goodluck with your crafts.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomHow can you advocate for the importance of reducing packaging to the rest of your friends, family and larger community?

REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
Alison Perreault 7/31/2023 3:21 PMGrowing your own garden is a way to relieve stress and learn more. -
Alison Perreault 7/31/2023 3:10 PMWhat a great month! I learned about micro plastics in washing clothes and a new plastic free pet hair removal. I was thrilled to see my friend removing her pet hair this way as she has 3 dogs and one cat...that's a lot of hair!
The biggest learning is that my part has just begun. There is so much teaching that needs to happen to continue. My children love to take the quick/easy way out and get annoyed when there are no plastic bags. Next step is to work on upcycling to create fun reusable containers that my children can help create. -
Alison Perreault 7/25/2023 4:38 AMOff to a beach vacation. Bags packed with all reusable containers for toiletries. Reusable water bottles for all and cooler and lunch bag packed with all the snacks. -
Alison Perreault 7/24/2023 3:14 PMWent to get cat food for my cat and had to really look to find his treat food to not be in plastic. I managed to get his dry food and favorite wet food without falling for the plastic containers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily + PetsWe know you want to - tell us about why your pet is so awesome!
Alison Perreault 7/21/2023 12:07 PMI have the best orange tabby! He is truly a family member and keeps us all on our toes. He's a rescue from Georgia that we adopted in December of 2020. He has lived in 4 houses in the past 3 years and adapts quickly to the constant change. We are finally "home" and no more moves! Now we can focus on removing his pet hair in the most sustainable way! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily + PetsHad you ever considered the environmental impact of balloons before? How can you share this information with your friends and family to encourage them to avoid balloons, too?
Alison Perreault 7/17/2023 3:36 PMIt wasn't until I took the Starbucks Greener Apron course that I considered the environmental impact of balloons. Sharing how they are harmful to marine life as well as sharing some fun ways to make sustainable celebration items like a fun DIY banner. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBedroomThe simple act of hang drying your laundry can be an act of mindfulness. Where else in your daily routine can you make mindfulness a practice?
Alison Perreault 7/17/2023 3:31 PMnot running the water while you are brushing your teeth
