REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHow can you take your commitment to sustainable living beyond yourself and your family? How can you, personally, work toward broader change?
Ashley Oki 7/31/2023 2:18 PMI can find opportunities to reduce my carbon and plastic footprints and to replace and reuse the things I use everyday. I can research more ways to help, donate, educate others, and volunteer to make a difference in these areas. -
Ashley Oki 7/31/2023 2:12 PMIt is going pretty well. I was excited to complete the challenge and look forward to continuing these new habits even after the challenge is over. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily + PetsDoes your child play differently with natural or repurposed toys than with other toys? If so, how?
Ashley Oki 7/31/2023 2:11 PMRepurposed toys require children to become more creative and use their imaginations. This is helpful for their cognitive growth, and it encourages them to think creatively about the world around them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily + PetsHow can you and your little one exercise your creativity without creating more plastic waste?
Ashley Oki 7/31/2023 2:09 PMI could try to reduce plastic waste by reusing things around the house that usually go to waste, such as old cardboard boxes, plastic water bottles, egg cartons, old clothing, and scratch paper. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Ashley Oki 7/31/2023 2:08 PMSingle use plastics tend to come up when purchasing individually packaged items, such as the ones met for people only buying food for one meal and/or only for themselves. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenWhy do you chew gum? What habits could replace and meet your reasons for chewing gum?
Ashley Oki 7/31/2023 2:07 PMI occasionally chew gum as a breath freshener and as something to do when I am bored. I could replace this by chewing some mint and/or using a fidget toy instead. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomTake a moment to estimate how many disposable daily contacts you may have used over the years. What would be your impact now of switching to a contact brand with a longer lifespan?
Ashley Oki 7/31/2023 2:06 PMI have never worn daily contacts, but I used biweekly for a long time and switched to monthly. I have probably used hundreds of contacts over the years, which adds up quickly when it comes to packaging and out of pocket cost. Switching contacts to one’s that last longer is a better choice both financially and for the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBedroomWhat are the benefits (to people, animals, and the environment) of purchasing clothes made with natural fibers?
Ashley Oki 7/31/2023 2:05 PMThe amount of clothes going to the landfill is reduced, as well as the amount of water and chemicals being used. Buying natural fibers also helps farms and other small businesses instead of large factories/corporations. The natural fibers also tend to last longer and be easier to repair, which saves me money. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomWhat are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?
Ashley Oki 7/31/2023 2:02 PMSome of the benefits include that it is more cost affordable and that I don’t have to make multiple trips to the store whenever I need the product. -
Ashley Oki 7/29/2023 6:32 PMPretty well so far I think! I was surprised how much single-use plastics were used when I really stopped to look around the things I was using everyday, and I have had fun researching alternatives to single use plastics and finding ways to reuse the things I have.
