Study
Numbers Everywhere
The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot - and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn what these numbers mean and which types of plastics are accepted for recycling in my area.
Kitchen
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Kitchen
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Kitchen
Go Strawless
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Kitchen
Choose Reusable Food Storage
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).

REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Kyle Meibers 7/13/2023 1:52 PMlook for more reusable products like beeswax paper or compostable bags. -
Kyle Meibers 7/13/2023 1:10 PMWoo, we're doing great guys!!!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Kyle Meibers 7/12/2023 7:23 AMI recently went an event down at the new Ampitheater in clearwater and noticed that they did not user straws at all, and all of the cups were recyclable aluminum and all the water overed was in cans. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenSince the restrictions that COVID-19 has required of our society, trying to use your own cup might present new barriers, as well as new opportunities for creative problem solving. How were you able to achieve success on this action? How can you make it a long-term habit?
Kyle Meibers 7/12/2023 7:22 AMI overcame this by mainly making coffee or tea at home instead of buying it from the drive through. I have also found this has helped me save money in the long run, so I have been doing it more often. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONStudyWere you surprised by what the different plastic identification numbers mean? How can this information help you become a better recycler?
Kyle Meibers 7/12/2023 7:20 AMI was surprised on how many of those numbers are not recycle or the ones that are not a lot of places expect them.
