Amy's actions
Kitchen
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Kitchen
Better Gum
I will give up gum or choose gum made from chicle or other plastic-free gum bases.
Kitchen
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 1 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Bathroom
A Sustainable Flow
I will make the switch to sustainable, reusable period products.
Family + Pets
Balloons Blow
Although a long-standing festive tradition, balloons are harmful for animals and the environment. I will spend 10 learning about the dangers of balloons and find eco-friendly alternatives to use instead.
Kitchen
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Bedroom
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 30 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Kitchen
Plant a Garden
I will plant an herb or vegetable garden using as little plastic as possible and to save from the plastic used buying herbs and veggies.
Kitchen
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Study
Numbers Everywhere
The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot - and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn what these numbers mean and which types of plastics are accepted for recycling in my area.
Bathroom
Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Wipes don't break down in sewer systems, but combine with fat to create massive clogs. I will find alternatives to using disposable wipes.
Study
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Study
Say No to Styrofoam
Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can, making sure to kindly let people know why I'm asking for alternative packaging.

Amy Martinez 7/31/2023 11:51 AMI had fun participating in Plastic Free July. Some things were harder than I thought they would be. This challenge made me think a lot more about what plastics I'm contributing to. Even though July is almost over I will still reduce my use of plastics as much as possible.-
Ava Kruciak 7/31/2023 2:45 PMI think that we all had fun and that we all learned to think more about how we contribute or reduce environmental issues. High five on trying to continue!

REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Amy Martinez 7/07/2023 1:16 PMThis challenge became easy when I started keeping my reusable bags in my car so I would always have them when I go out. -
Amy Martinez 7/06/2023 10:26 AMPlastic free July has been going really well. There are some things I need to be more conscience of but I am getting better.
