Hi, I have been doing this for several years now and appreciate that you have been expanding it. I would, hoever like to see something more than plastic. For instance "eat one meatless meal a week". Maybe it was there but I didn't see it. I also bought the micro plastic laundry bag for $40. I rally liked that idea... I might not be doing it correctly but it sure didn't work. Finally I don't mean to be a downer but I would love in some of the one time actions, we mention some of the positive things that have happened in the last 10 year. There have been some.

    • Thank you for this feedback and suggestions. Our other events have more actions you can take part in, like eating less meat. Our next one will be Drawdown Ecochallenge happening the month of October - please join us!

Hard to pick up liter when it is so hot and you stay in the house

You are correct...so dang hot. Luckily (?) I don't have to go far to pick up trash in my neighborhood and try and get out there before 9am.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What did you learn about how plastic production impacts humans, animals, communities, and the environment? Which of these impacts specifically affects your community?

Well I learned that we are in a world of hurt. We recycle in our community but the recycling just sits there since there is no place to go. We have used more plastic in the first decade of this century that last century. The plastic industry is spending billions. So when listening to all of this you as a person loose hope. It would be nice if we also learned things that are being done. Like 4 Ocean and how they are removing plastic from the ocean. The vacuum that has been developed. Give us a little hope in learning about plastics !! Very defeatist learning module

I agree with you that we need to keep our hope up...the Guardian has an e-newsletter (every Thursday) that includes good news and success stories...but they do also have bad news.

So I like to work the Labyrinth close to my home. Today I got out there before it got to be blistering hot and I saw a lot of liter. This is not usually the case since it is at a church . I think the winds brought it it. As I walked to the Labyrinth, I picked up what I could and put it down at the beginning of the trail to exit. On the way out I saw more and was thinking I would need to put it in my car to take home. Then what did you know, there was a trash can right by my car I had never noticed before. Hmmm...

hmmm indeed. I took to carrying a bag of some sort (like a newly emptied bird seed bag) with me in the car and my trash grabbers and picked up extra trash like that.

Need to start bringing something to hold the litter when I walk the dog. With this wind found more than usual in the neighborhood

Yeah those nasty cigarette butts! I bring a bag of some kind along with the trash grabbers that the Witters gave me last year!

I discovered this organization in Australia. Toilet Paper made with Bamboo. Part of their profits regimen to buy toilets in areas that need good sanitation. I buy enough for 6 months at time. Great organization and with Aussie humor
