REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat are some of the cases you could make to an employer for why switching to durable dishes and utensils is actually in their best interest as well?
Nancy Locquet Absillis 7/27/2023 2:42 PMThe cost and the impact of using single used plastics on the environment are definitively 2 major factors that might persuade a company to switch to durable dishes and utensils. We have lots of glasses, plates, cups, and utensils we no longer use, so they can have a second life at the office. One of the fun things is that you can take a Christmas mug to drink tea in July! Makes it entertaining. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHow does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies benefit your family?
Nancy Locquet Absillis 7/18/2023 5:31 PMWe're lucky to have a few blueberry bushes in the back yard and they have been delivering!!! This is the first year that our backyard friends left us 4 pints of blueberries, and they taste heavenly. No plastic containers and no pesticides! That says it all... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBedroomWas this an easy or difficult swap for you to make? Did you have any concerns before making the swap?
Nancy Locquet Absillis 7/12/2023 6:02 PMI looked into refillable detergents a while back, but always thought that it was so super expensive, and the products usually weren't that great. I learned that you could make your own detergent with washing soda, Ivory soap, and Borax. so I'm giving it a try.-
Abby Lewis 7/18/2023 8:23 AMI've had a lot of luck with the dishwasher detergent sheets. I forget which brand I use, but I love them! You only need one sheet per wash and they're packaged with paper. plus they're so light weight and don't take up much room on my shelf! Keep me updated on how the homemade detergent works for you. sounds like a great option!

REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHow do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?
Nancy Locquet Absillis 7/08/2023 11:05 AMPreparing food from scratch certainly takes time and planning, but it tastes so much better, and it gives you a feeling of accomplishment. Less salt, no additives or harmful chemicals, and less packaging material...so much better for your health AND the environment! Since yogurt is always packaged in plastic, I decided to make my own. I got a recipe from a friend and will try it today! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomDo some research on the toxic side affects of aluminum deodorant. After reading the side effects, can you think of instances where you may have experienced the side effects from this form of deodorant?
Nancy Locquet Absillis 7/07/2023 6:07 PMI've been contemplating changing my deodorant for a while now and finally found an option that's great for my skin and the environment! After reading up on some of the side effects of aluminum and parabens, I realized that these might have contributed to the health issues I've had for a while now. These chemicals are flagged as potential endocrine disruptors, so I've been looking for a safe replacement and found NATIVE deodorant that is plastic-free and derived from natural ingredients. Win-win! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONStudyWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Nancy Locquet Absillis 7/02/2023 9:33 AMI checked "A DROP IN THE OCEAN" website, and decided to try this one instead. https://true.gbci.org/sites/default/files/resources/TRUE%20Home%20Zero%20Waste%20Audit.pdf
Last week was a pretty unusual week for us, so this means that there's room for improvement. Using this checklist that talks about the 9 R's, makes me think twice before I put it in the bin. -
Nancy Locquet Absillis 7/01/2023 9:30 AMLet the Plastic Free July challenge begin!!! Ok, I admit, I've been a slacker lately. How do I know? Well, I started going through the actions I picked and clicked on the challenges I'm already doing. That made me realize which ones I need to focus on for the next couple of days, so I unclick a few challenges and chose some new ones. How did you start your first day of this PFJ challenge? Feel free to post it on our Team's feed! -
