I will spend 30 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Study
Say No to Styrofoam
Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can, making sure to kindly let people know why I'm asking for alternative packaging.

I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Kitchen

Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 30 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Kitchen
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Bathroom
See the Green
I will recycle used contact lenses and packaging.
Kitchen
Better Gum
I will give up gum or choose gum made from chicle or other plastic-free gum bases.
Kitchen
Go Strawless
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Community
Learn about Environmental Justice
Using the action resource links below, my family will spend 30 minutes learning about environmental justice, causes of environmental injustice, and how plastic waste disproportionately impacts already vulnerable communities.
Community
Tour A Waste Management Facility
I will spend at least 30 minute(s) touring (virtually or in person) a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about our local waste and waste recovery streams.
Study
Plastic History Buff
Single-use plastics are everywhere, but that wasn't always the case. I will spend at least 20 minutes learning about the history of single-use plastics and how it became ubiquitous in our daily lives.
Family + Pets
Discover Together
I will spend 20 minutes educating my family on the basics of living a reduced/no-plastic lifestyle.
Study
Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.

Learn about Plastic Production
Plastic production, not just disposal, pollutes communities and harms people. I will learn about the impacts of plastic production on humans, animals, communities, and the environment.

Estimate Your Ecological Footprint
I will calculate my ecological footprint, and from the results brainstorm and take action on ways I can reduce my annual footprint.

Stephanie Kuech 7/07/2023 11:18 AMGreat - so far I have only bought sustainable clothing for the summer! Also, feel free to ask me for brand recommendations, whether for work or for working out/athleisure. I enjoy helping others discover high quality and green brands :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBedroomHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Stephanie Kuech 7/07/2023 11:16 AMPersonally, I find that natural fibers feel much better on my sensitive skin, and allow me more ventilation (I sweat a lot...and polyester doesn't ever help). They also will break down in the environment much faster than plastic fibers, reducing the amount of waste. Lastly, I tend to find that companies that focus on slow and sustainable fashion use many more natural materials, especially compared to fast fashion brands, and much of it is locally sourced. This also means that more expensive brands that use these materials are less likely to employ people who work in sweatshops, and instead pay their workers fair wages.
