I was raised overseas and partially with the Girl Scouts, so traveling with snacks is easy for me. My husband on the other hand (raised overseas and was an Eagle Scout), he prefers to purchase snacks while we're on the road. To be fair when we travel long journeys by car (e.g. NC or NH), we do take breaks and purchase snacks. However, we do reuse plastic bags to collect trash and dispose it properly.

Although my husband isn't participating in the Plastic-Free July challenge on his own account, he does his best in his own way and asked me to share this. He grew up with home video gaming consoles (PlayStation and Xbox) and prefers playing the older games like Halo, and Ratchet and Clank. Today his mail arrived and he ordered an 100% recycled Xbox controller. I have been out of touch on the latest console gaming and didn't know Xbox did these.

Oh that's good to know! My partner and I are Playstation people, so I'm curious if Sony does this in case we ever need new controllers!

Since the restrictions that COVID-19 has required of our society, trying to use your own cup might present new barriers, as well as new opportunities for creative problem solving. How were you able to achieve success on this action? How can you make it a long-term habit?

I'm a volunteer at the National Aquarium and one of my roles is at the office. Everyone in the office is pro-conservation, which means we all bring reusable containers (for food and beverages). In case we forget something, we have non-plastic materials. By this, we're able to eliminate waste

How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

The best way to remember is not only have reusable bags in the car, but also to take them with you in the store. If I forget the bags, I'll load up the trunk by moving items from the plastic bags to reusable bags, stuff the plastic bags together, and leave the plastic bags in the car in case I need to dispose trash later

How does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies benefit your family?

By family, I include my pets. I have one cat and three bearded dragons, so once a week I would buy produce that's safe for both animals. My female bearded dragon loves apples, so I'll give her an apple once a month and the best month are vegetables

That's great that you can share your produce with your pets! My dog loves the crunch of lettuce and apples as well.

Watching favorite episodes the Animaniacs reboot, and forgot there's an episode about climate change. It's the episode when the summer time was too hot and the Warner siblings went to the Artic, only to find out it wasn't a vacation. If you pay attention to the lines, they're telling the viewers about climate change and how small things can make the planet better

I found a website that lists six kid-friendly documentaries about plastic and the ocean, and mainly about conservation. https://blog.padi.com/5-ocean-documentaries-to-get-kids-excited-about-conservation/
If anyone knows any great documentations on Disney Plus, please let me know! (and yes, I love watching shark-related documentaries during Shark Week; July 11-18)
