Whew! Made it! This Plastic Free Ecochallenge is in the bag. When's the next ecochallenge?

This month's EcoChallenge reinvigorated my reusable straw habit. I'd been using bamboo or metal straws in the past, but the Covid pandemic threw me off my stride.

Not plastic related, but appropriate to our conservation msg -- Listening to Pres. Biden's speech about the current heat emergency. He's not happy with states that prohibit workers from taking water breaks. Maybe this summer is the one that turns the tide (pun intended) on climate change.

Using my electric leaf blower/yard vac and am amazed at how much plastic is it. Except for a few metal wires, switches, and the electric motor, it's all plastic. :-(

I invested in a single reusable silicon ziplock bag from the Co-op as a test. Rather pricey but it should outlive 100's of single-use plastic bags. Trying it out with some Feta cheese, which usually doesn't last well once its store packaging is opened.

Jeez oh Pete! It was another hot one... out in the Cottonwood Gallery taking Nature's Notebook observations from 9:00-11:30. Just let us say it was rather warm. Wanted to point out this "widow-maker" hanging above our first Forestiera at the trail junction.

Not plastic related, but fun: the Black Swallowtail caterpillars have decamped from my fennel plant. They crawl away from their maternal host plant to form chrysalides. There should be a new generation of butterflies around in a couple weeks. Now to cut the fennel back so new growth will sprout and attract still more.

Dang! That's awesome Karl. My fennel is slow to grow for some reason and the butterflies have been all but absent from my yard.

Large amounts of coffee this morning from my reusable mug required to get my sinuses cooperating. Still feeling a few side effects of last week's summer cold.

Actually remembered to take my metal straw with me and used it today.
