Choose Reusable Food Storage

I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).

DAILY ACTIONS

Study

Numbers Everywhere

The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot - and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn what these numbers mean and which types of plastics are accepted for recycling in my area.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Bathroom

Homemade or Refillable Cleaners

I will make my own cleaning products or choose plastic-free, refillable options.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Study

Follow the Chasing Arrows

The chasing arrows symbol we associate with recycling doesn't always actually mean something is recyclable. I will spend at least 20 minutes learning the different meanings the symbol can have.

Keep My Community Clean

I will pick up 4 piece(s) of litter each day.

Try a New Recipe

I will try new recipe(s) or food preparation method(s) each day, such as canning, pickling, making yogurt, or baking granola bars or bread.

Switch to Loose Leaf Tea

Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.

I’m on vacation and am still picking up trash!

I’ve already saved 8 plastic bottles of water just by using my own bottle. It’s crazy the amount of trash at the resort where we are staying. I’m already formulating a letter to the company!

Yaaas! My folks think I’m crazy - I go on walks and come back with a bag of garbage that I’ve collected. ~And when I pack recyclables in my suitcase, to bring home and recycle, they just roll their eyes and shake their heads. 🙄😉🤣

How do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?

It was good to actually use some things in the frig to avoid food wastage

It took me these 4 days to remember to put the link on Facebook. But I did finally. Let’s see what they say/do!

Sent leftovers home with my in-laws in a glass Pyrex. It surprised them, but they said they recently bought some too!

It’s crazy how much trash is just in my neighborhood. I always come home with a pocketful.

Were you surprised by what the different plastic identification numbers mean? How can this information help you become a better recycler?

Our local recycler has a great website and is very helpful to find what and how to recycle. I share the info yearly on my HOA Facebook page.

There are some great loose teas to be found! It’s fun to find unusual tea balls too.
