Debra's actions
Kitchen
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Kitchen
Cook a Plastic Free Meal
I will prepare meals at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Bathroom
Brush with Bamboo
I will replace my plastic toothbrush with a bamboo toothbrush.
Bathroom
Sustainable Suds
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions with sustainable, unpackaged, or refillable options.
Bathroom
Green Beauty
When it's time to buy more, I will replace my beauty products with refillable, sustainable, and/or DIY options.
Bedroom
Eco Detergent
I will use laundry detergent that is packaged in glass or aluminum, or an alternative like soap nuts.
Bedroom
Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 30 minutes learning about the costs of fast fashion and begin trying to practice sustainable fashion in my own life.
Kitchen
Try a New Recipe
I will try new recipe(s) or food preparation method(s) each day, such as canning, pickling, making yogurt, or baking granola bars or bread.
Bathroom
See the Green
I will recycle used contact lenses and packaging.
Kitchen
Clean Plate Club
When I need to replace my dish soap, I will switch to a bar or refillable option.
Bathroom
Eco Deodorant
I will switch to a plastic-free deodorant — whether purchased or DIY'd.
Study
Follow the Chasing Arrows
The chasing arrows symbol we associate with recycling doesn't always actually mean something is recyclable. I will spend at least 20 minutes learning the different meanings the symbol can have.
Family + Pets
Rubber Glove Pet Hair Removal
I will use a rubber glove to remove pet hair from clothes, carpets and furniture.
Community
Become a Recycling Pro
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 20 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Family + Pets
Homemade Pet Food
I will prepare my own pet food to avoid plastic packaging.
Kitchen
Switch to Loose Leaf Tea
Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBedroomHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Debra Evans 7/25/2023 6:21 AMI mix and match items I already have and also dye items new colors to make something old look new. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomHow can you advocate for the importance of reducing packaging to the rest of your friends, family and larger community?
Debra Evans 7/06/2023 7:11 AMI think one way to encourage my friends and family is to let them know about how much you can save by buying with reduced packaging. Also you help save the planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBedroomWas this an easy or difficult swap for you to make? Did you have any concerns before making the swap?
Debra Evans 7/04/2023 7:04 AMI was concerned that my clothing would not get as clean but I am pleased that this is not the case. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Debra Evans 7/03/2023 7:15 AMI notice how many things get wrapped up that are totally unnecessary. I once actually saw bananas individually wrapped in plastic. Crazy -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomTake a moment to estimate how many disposable daily contacts you may have used over the years. What would be your impact now of switching to a contact brand with a longer lifespan?
Debra Evans 7/03/2023 7:01 AMI have been wearing contact lenses for 56 years so it really horrifying to think how many might have ended up in the ocean. I switched to just using my glasses. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomDo some research on the toxic side affects of aluminum deodorant. After reading the side effects, can you think of instances where you may have experienced the side effects from this form of deodorant?
Debra Evans 7/02/2023 10:54 AMI know too much exposure to aluminum deodorant can cause coughing and I recently had a cough for over 5 week which may or may not have been cause or exacerbated by it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily + PetsWe know you want to - tell us about why your pet is so awesome!
Debra Evans 7/02/2023 9:23 AMAll my cats were rescues so lives were saved but I think I am actually the one who benefited. Nothing is as pure as the love of a dog or cat and my life is always enriched when a new pet joins the family. I can not imagine life without their love. -

Debra Evans 7/02/2023 8:25 AMThere is a much greater variety of loose leaf teas so besides getting rid of more plastic I get a larger choice of flavors. -
