Juli's actions
Bedroom
Ditch Dryer Sheets
I will use wool dryer balls or another plastic-free alternative to dryer sheets to keep my clothes static-free.
Bathroom
Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Wipes don't break down in sewer systems, but combine with fat to create massive clogs. I will find alternatives to using disposable wipes.
Bathroom
See the Green

Community
Advocate for Plastic-Free Dining
I will talk to the owner or manager of a restaurant I frequent to request that they reduce their use of single-use and disposable plastics.
Bathroom
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me.
Bedroom
Catch Those Microfibers
I will use a microfiber catcher in my laundry, or install a microfiber filter for my washing machine.
Study
Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.
Study
Estimate Your Ecological Footprint
I will calculate my ecological footprint, and from the results brainstorm and take action on ways I can reduce my annual footprint.
Study
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Study
Say No to Styrofoam
Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can, making sure to kindly let people know why I'm asking for alternative packaging.
Community
Research Local Waste Sites
I will spend 15 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Family + Pets
Natural Paints
I will paint rooms in my home with low/no VOC or natural paints.
Family + Pets
Sustainable Suds: Pet Edition
I will replace my pet's shampoo with an eco-friendly shampoo bar or refillable shampoo option.
Family + Pets
Discover Together
I will spend 5 minutes educating my family on the basics of living a reduced/no-plastic lifestyle.
Kitchen
Plant a Garden
I will plant an herb or vegetable garden using as little plastic as possible and to save from the plastic used buying herbs and veggies.

Clean Plate Club
When I need to replace my dish soap, I will switch to a bar or refillable option.
Kitchen
Glass Bottle Baby

REFLECTION QUESTIONStudyAs you have reduced your spending, what have you noticed about your 'health and safety' purchasing habits? How might this change your longer term purchasing decisions?
Juli Dennis 7/31/2023 3:03 PMthis wasn't to hard for me. now if I could actually just use what I buy with good intentions of using but than end up not I'd be golden -
REFLECTION QUESTIONStudyHow might styrofoam be an environmental justice and/or environmental racism issue in your community?
Juli Dennis 7/31/2023 3:02 PMi found more places have turned to other material for take out containers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomTake a moment to estimate how many disposable daily contacts you may have used over the years. What would be your impact now of switching to a contact brand with a longer lifespan?
Juli Dennis 7/31/2023 3:01 PMI personally am not fan of daily contacts, I find they ripp to easy for my liking. Now If I could find a way to recycle my monthly ones I'd be in heaven -
Juli Dennis 7/25/2023 7:39 PMOne thing I've really seen impron in past years is road races using reusable cup vs the wax coated disposable cups. I've run 3 races now where they used hiccup cups which are sterilized and reused again. Also seen ra es that have bins for food waste such as banana peels and other stuff that can be composted. One race in particular has really made an effort to be a green race. These simple steps are helping our environment and even bringing attention to recycling more.

Juli Dennis 7/20/2023 3:27 AMI'm so happy to see bath and body works is offering refills for their hand soap now!!! Each refill is 3.5 bottles I guess so that's 3.5 less bottles going in my work trash can. I might have to see if I can find a permanent bottle to eliminate the bottles being trashed all together.

Juli Dennis 7/16/2023 2:53 PMI love how more places are using recycled napkins and containers -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomEven though they are marketed as "flushable," disposable wipes do not disintegrate in water or the sewer system, and actually release microplastics into our waterways. How does it feel to learn this information? What do you want to do about it?
Juli Dennis 7/15/2023 12:33 PMWipes are nice but so expensive and bad for sewer and environmentally bad -
Juli Dennis 7/10/2023 4:41 PMI've done this for ages but I love my reusable cups at work, Since it keeps my water colder, lid stays on tight and prevents spills much better than Sytrofoam cups. Plus my co workers love seeing what my cup says that day.-
Kris Hay 7/13/2023 12:41 PMThat’s fun that your cups provide an opportunity for social interaction with your colleagues!
