How does buying used differ from buying new? How does each purchasing decision make you feel?

For about 5 years now, I've been shopping almost exclusively at thrift stores or on Facebook Marketplace. It is a great feeling because 1) I'm keeping items out of a landfill, 2) not consuming from new resources, and 3) saving a ton of money.

I love knowing the story behind the things I'm brining into my home, too! For example, my standing desk was handmade by someone local to me and they were so grateful it was going to someone who will love it and use it regularly rather than to landfill. It saved me money, saved resources, and makes me happy to know how the desk came to be.

Whenever my dogs tear up their toys, I just restuff them with the stuffing they pulled out and sew up the holes.

We had an in-person work event today and I assumed there would only be plastic options, so I made sure to bring my water bottle. It's not as hard as everyone thinks to be more eco-friendly. Just takes a little planning ahead and being conscious of it.

If I absolutely have to stop at a fast food drive thru, when they are about to hand me my food or drink, I tell them no straw or immediately hand it back to them.

I thought that berry clamshells could not be recycled, but looked it up on the City of Raleigh website and as long as they are #1, they can be recycled. Occasionally, they are #6, so I will save those to send to Anything With a Plug Recycling.

Check out "Anything with a Plug" recycling. He is in the Wake County area and takes almost ANYTHING for recycling. Does not accept lightbulbs, but lots of different types of plastics and electronics. Refer to the website for a complete list, but really takes almost anything. There is a permanent location and there are monthly drop-off locations on the weekends.
