Lynn's actions
Kitchen
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own snacks and meals in my own containers to avoid the waste of take-out containers.
Kitchen
Plastic Free Lunch Boxes
I will only pack reusable cutlery, drinkware and containers in my family's lunches to reduce plastic waste.
Family + Pets
Invest in a Pooper-Scooper
I will swap out my single use plastic bags for a pooper-scooper.
Kitchen
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Kitchen
Switch to Loose Leaf Tea
Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.
Kitchen
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 2 piece(s) of litter each day.
Family + Pets
All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!

REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Lynn Cox 7/25/2023 8:41 AMUsing plastic bags is very easy... very convenient and squishable in a already full refrigerator, so I had to take time to figure out where the reusable container could go without an avalanche of things falling out... so a little bit more involved, but then I don't have to worry about wasting a bag... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
-
Lynn Cox 7/25/2023 8:38 AMJust plugging along. Making tiny improvements might not seem like much, but it is at least going in the right direction and feels good. -
Lynn Cox 7/14/2023 9:48 AMI always try to go plastic free and reuse containers that I get from the store. I also try to find items that come in glass jars, because they are great to reuse. One great way to reuse a glass jar is to save seeds from our garden. We dry them out and save them in a glass jar (plastic will ruin the seeds). We have seeds that are 20+ years old that we grew this year! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily + PetsHow are caring for your pet and caring for the environment connected for you?
Lynn Cox 7/10/2023 6:27 AMThey are totally connected. I take care of my backyard not only for her to play, but to have areas in which other animals (birds, bunnies and butterflies) can live. There are bushes for birds to live in and milkweed for monarchs to lay eggs on. It is important to maintain these areas so my pet can play and not harm the other animals. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily + PetsIn what ways is supplying your pet with all natural pet toys better for your pet, better for you, and better for the environment?
