Angela's actions
Bathroom
Eco Deodorant
I will switch to a plastic-free deodorant — whether purchased or DIY'd.
Bedroom
Natural Fibers
When available, I will purchase clothing and bedding made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers.
Bathroom
Say No to "Flushable Wipes"
Wipes don't break down in sewer systems, but combine with fat to create massive clogs. I will find alternatives to using disposable wipes.
Study
Numbers Everywhere
The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot - and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn what these numbers mean and which types of plastics are accepted for recycling in my area.
Study
Dig into Bioplastics
I will spend at least 30 minutes researching the impacts of bioplastics and how to properly dispose of them in my city, and I will share this information with 10 friends, family, and/or colleagues.
Bathroom
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me.
Community
Advocate for Plastic-Free Dining
I will talk to the owner or manager of a restaurant I frequent to request that they reduce their use of single-use and disposable plastics.
Bedroom
Ditch Dryer Sheets
I will use wool dryer balls or another plastic-free alternative to dryer sheets to keep my clothes static-free.
Study
Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.
Study
Learn about Plastic Production
Plastic production, not just disposal, pollutes communities and harms people. I will learn about the impacts of plastic production on humans, animals, communities, and the environment.
Study
Estimate Your Ecological Footprint
I will calculate my ecological footprint, and from the results brainstorm and take action on ways I can reduce my annual footprint.
Bedroom
Catch Those Microfibers
I will use a microfiber catcher in my laundry, or install a microfiber filter for my washing machine.
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 5 piece(s) of litter each day.
Study
Say No to Styrofoam
Throughout its life cycle, polystyrene (styrofoam) can harm people, communities, and the planet. I will refuse styrofoam whenever I can, making sure to kindly let people know why I'm asking for alternative packaging.
Community
Advocate for Office Reusables
I will lobby my workplace to have reusable dishes and silverware in order to minimize disposables.
Community
Advocate For Better Food Packaging
I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.
Study
Follow the Chasing Arrows
The chasing arrows symbol we associate with recycling doesn't always actually mean something is recyclable. I will spend at least 30 minutes learning the different meanings the symbol can have.

REFLECTION QUESTIONStudyWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Angela Carr 7/18/2023 5:09 AMI just discovered that my community has glass, cardboard, and plastic recycling bins! I had no idea just how much glass I used to throw away until I began to place cleaned jars in a box to deliver. Does your community offer such a service? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBedroomOften, single-use and disposable products don't just create more trash - they also contain toxins that are bad for humans. What are some other single-use items that are harmful to humans?
Angela Carr 7/18/2023 5:05 AMI stopped using dryer sheets and I don't miss them at all. There are a number of products to replace them and all are healthier for the environment and my skin. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONStudyHow might styrofoam be an environmental justice and/or environmental racism issue in your community?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Angela Carr 7/18/2023 5:02 AMWhile I was on a bike path this weekend - I picked up some trash. I encountered a group of Boy Scouts who were also gathering trash. I finished my hike with them. They were delightful.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat was your strategy in talking with your favorite restaurant's management? Did you find it to be effective?
Angela Carr 7/14/2023 5:36 AMI spoke to a manager who is very open on getting rid of a lot of plastic waste. He is considering ways to stop using it for all carry out orders... including adding a surcharge for plastic silverware. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBedroomWhich microfiber solution did you choose? How has it changed your laundry routine?

REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomDo some research on the toxic side affects of aluminum deodorant. After reading the side effects, can you think of instances where you may have experienced the side effects from this form of deodorant?
Angela Carr 7/05/2023 5:04 AMI've always had rashes from using deodorants with aluminum. Thankfully there are brands out there that are aluminum free.
