  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Kitchen
How can you be an advocate for using reusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable food packaging or eating utensils, and how can you convince them of the need for change?

Somewhere that is very dependent on disposable forks and spoons is schools and work places. Specifically public schools dispense many disposable plastic utensils. A potential way to convince them to find a new solution could be displaying data on how many of these pieces of plastic are thrown away each week and the effect it can have on the environment. Personally, I could convince my friends to follow along with reusable utensils too!

We pay less for the prepackaged snacks we are swapping out and leads to healthier habits for all of us- something I tried to do even prior to this challenge.

My mom and I have been going out the last few afternoons and picking up trash on our street. Not only is it a good mother-daughter activity, but several neighbors have thanked us for picking up trash!

I’ve chosen to pop my own popcorn kernels from a recyclable or reusable container rather than consume prepackaged popcorn snacks.

It was crazy to learn about the huge impacts of balloons and sky lanterns on the environment. And I whole-heartedly agree that everyone should take their time to find out which items they can recycle and where.
