Switch to Loose Leaf Tea
Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.
Kitchen
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 2 piece(s) of litter each day.
Kitchen
Plant a Garden
I will plant an herb or vegetable garden using as little plastic as possible and to save from the plastic used buying herbs and veggies.
Kitchen
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 4 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Kitchen
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Kitchen
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Kitchen
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
Brandi Bolyard 7/28/2023 10:26 AMHealth benefits for sure! I love eating fresh veggies straight from the garden I started as a seed months ago. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHow can you be an advocate for using reusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable food packaging or eating utensils, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
Brandi Bolyard 7/28/2023 10:23 AMYou can start with bringing your own reusable silver ware to restaurants. Food trucks are notorious for using single use plastics/paper products, but if you start bringing your own, you save them from going to the landfills after each use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Brandi Bolyard 7/28/2023 10:21 AMThey package the smallest things in single use plastic! There is a episode of Futurama that makes fun of this practice, they show a pacakge of "Oreos" that has 1 cookie, another cookie, and the icing all in their own container and you make it yourself. lol Its a little exaggerated but is so true! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?
Brandi Bolyard 7/28/2023 10:19 AMLocally I can research these companies doing those practices and not purchase them for my family. Frankly I think the marketing practices for waters like Fiji are bogus, they taste just the same as tap water in my opinion. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenTake time to reflect or meditate over your plastic-free cup of tea. Share your thoughts and reflections with us here!
Brandi Bolyard 7/28/2023 10:17 AMIt feels good to know I can compost my tea leaves and fertilize my garden with them. -
Brandi Bolyard 7/28/2023 10:13 AM3 more days! We can do this!!! -
Brandi Bolyard 7/26/2023 8:15 AM5 Days left! Don't forget to check in and keep up the good work!!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Brandi Bolyard 7/08/2023 11:42 AMIt makes our community look better by cleaning up trash! Its all about learning by example. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Brandi Bolyard 7/05/2023 6:08 AMThe most difficult part is to remember my bags in the car! I keep them there so I remember to take them, but forget to take them in the store.
