How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

I really try to not shop at places that practice fast fashion. When I do shop I try to invest in high quality pieces that will last me forever and I really try to avoid trends.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Bedroom
Often, single-use and disposable products don't just create more trash - they also contain toxins that are bad for humans. What are some other single-use items that are harmful to humans?

This was an easy switch to make! Plastic dryer sheets can get pricy when you have to keep buying them. I got wool balls at trader joes for $9 and they will last really long!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Kitchen
Do an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?

This is a huge challenge! Everything comes in plastic now. I have not successfully done a completely plastic free meal, but I have really reduced the amount of plastic that I consume. I always opt for fruits/veggies that are in plastic free packaging.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Kitchen
How can you be an advocate for using reusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable food packaging or eating utensils, and how can you convince them of the need for change?

    Lillia Blasius 7/28/2023 9:52 AM
I have a reusable utensil kit that comes with a fork, spoon, and knife in a protective case. I bring it on the go so if I grab food out I don't have to use plastic utensils.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Kitchen
Have you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.

    Lillia Blasius 7/28/2023 9:51 AM
I bought reusable straw kits that fit into my purse/bags and so I can always have a straw on the go!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Kitchen
How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

Plastic bags are everywhere! I always keep reusable bags in my car and try to remember to bring them in when I go into any store.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Bathroom
What are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?

    Lillia Blasius's avatar
    Lillia Blasius 7/28/2023 9:48 AM
I replaced my hand soaps with bar soap that came in plastic free packaging!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Study
What did you learn about your ecological footprint by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you? What are some ways you will take action to reduce your footprint?

This was so eye opening! This showed me where I can improve my lifestyle to live more sustainably.
