Sahar's actions
Kitchen
Better Gum
I will give up gum or choose gum made from chicle or other plastic-free gum bases.
Kitchen
Fill a Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Kitchen
Go Strawless
I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own reusable straw.
Kitchen
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own travel cup.
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 3 piece(s) of litter each day.
Kitchen
Skip Plastic Bags
When possible, I will not use disposable bags when shopping, including produce bags.
Bathroom
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me.
Bathroom
Brush with Bamboo
I will replace my plastic toothbrush with a bamboo toothbrush.
Study
Numbers Everywhere
The numbers #1-7 on plastics tell us a lot - and can help us be better recyclers. I will learn what these numbers mean and which types of plastics are accepted for recycling in my area.
Kitchen
Switch to Loose Leaf Tea
Because many tea bags and most sleeves and sachets contain plastic, I will switch to using loose leaf tea.
Kitchen
Reusable Towels
Replace paper napkin and paper towel in the kitchen with a reusable towel.

Sahar Azmat 7/17/2023 2:27 PMIt's going ok, I wish to be more mindful of my plastic usage at all times but I need to work on it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomWhat are the benefits of switching to bamboo toothbrushes? How would you implore others in your community to make this switch as well?
Sahar Azmat 7/13/2023 12:07 PMI have to yet get one for myself but I definitely see how beneficial it would be overall. I will update it after I get it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Sahar Azmat 7/13/2023 11:56 AMIt just is a good reminder to myself that I am part of the community and just like how I take care of my house and keep it clean, I have responsibility towards my community, overall a positive feeling.-
Heather Sampey 7/14/2023 6:03 AMThats a great way to look at that - just like you take care of the house you live in, you should take care of the community you live in. Thanks for sharing!!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONStudyWere you surprised by what the different plastic identification numbers mean? How can this information help you become a better recycler?
Sahar Azmat 7/07/2023 7:02 AMBoth the articles (different plastic identification numbers and 7 types of plastics) were very informative. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBathroomWhat is the benefit of using bar soaps or refilling your travel sized containers? Is this an action you think you will keep in your life?
Sahar Azmat 7/07/2023 6:36 AMTraveling with a bar soap is still a challenge for me but I have been using the same containers for travel for a few years now. It is beneficial to both the environment and my pocket. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKitchenSince the restrictions that COVID-19 has required of our society, trying to use your own cup might present new barriers, as well as new opportunities for creative problem solving. How were you able to achieve success on this action? How can you make it a long-term habit?
Sahar Azmat 7/03/2023 7:57 AMTry to wake up 10-15 minutes earlier than your normal time to make your tea at home and if not then go inside the store instead of the drive thru and hand them your reusable cup. It is not easy but not impossible either. -
Sahar Azmat 7/03/2023 7:29 AMUsed reusable cup for my morning tea today. Feels good to add something, even so small, towards a positive cause.
